Welcome to AI and Marketing. I am your host and news creator Stan Berllo from Nitro Marketing. You will [music] find links to all the stories mentioned in this episode in the show notes. >> Hello, I'm Maya. >> And I'm Daniel. It's Friday, October 30th. >> Finally. My brain already put on sweatpants. >> Mine left a note saying, "See you Monday." >> Any big plans tonight? >> Mostly opening the fridge and hoping something exciting happens. >> Come over. I'm ordering pizza. >> Look at that. Something exciting happened. >> Bring your movie suggestions. >> Absolutely. We'll spend an hour choosing, then watch the same show again. >> Perfect Friday. Aentic commerce driven by artificial intelligence is set to change how we shop. Nicholas Salat Buu, co-founder of Jooko, says this shift could empower consumers with personalized product recommendations and competitive pricing. >> Jooko is an AI shopping assistant that offers a universal product catalog with over 100 million items. It uses data from users bank accounts and browsing history to tailor the shopping experience. >> Unlike Amazon, which has a limited inventory, Jooko provides a broader selection. It's also more streamlined than Google, which often requires navigating multiple tabs. >> AI is crucial for Jooko, helping maintain an up-to-date catalog, understanding user preferences, and facilitating natural language searches. This means users can search for products using everyday language. >> Salot Buu points out that AI can process detailed product information and reviews, answering precise queries that traditional filters can't handle. As AI becomes more involved in shopping, it aims to reduce time and effort, enhancing customer satisfaction by focusing on a faster and more efficient shopping journey. Disney is integrating Tik Tok shop into its holiday marketing with its first super brand day event from November 4th to 10th. This will feature products from the Disney Store and over 20 brands. Some items will be exclusive to Tik Tok Shop like a Darth on a Hearth collectible and a holiday mini backpack from Loungefly. This is part of Disney's Make the Holidays Magic campaign. >> Tik Tok Shop's US sales are expected to grow by 48% in 2026, reaching 23.4 billion. Liz Short Read from Disney highlights the need to evolve with consumer habits. The event will offer Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars themed gifts in categories like home, toys, beauty, and fashion. This effort follows Disney's recent partnership with Tik Tok to enhance content sharing and engage with social media creators. Instagram head Adam Mossery has raised concerns about growing backlash against AI, especially among creators in creative fields. He shared these thoughts on the Colin and Samir podcast. Creators are worried about content ownership, their work being used to train AI models, and job displacement. This is a significant issue for those relying on social media for income. Mouseri mentioned the challenges in policing AI generated content. Despite Meta's requirements for disclosures, the technology isn't foolproof and can mislabel real creators as AI. Instagram currently treats AI influencers the same as human ones, which creates a competitive environment where human influencers must compete with virtual ones. >> Masseri emphasized understanding public opinion on AI, especially among young people, as crucial for Instagram's future. He believes in embracing AI in ways that empower people. A recent survey across nine countries, including places like Argentina, Australia, and the United States, shows a significant increase in the use of generative AI systems. >> Right. The study indicates that weekly use of standalone generative AI systems and chatbots jumped from 34% last year to 51% in 2026 in the six countries with historical data. and daily use has nearly doubled each year, reaching 28% this year. It's interesting that younger people, those with higher incomes and education, and those in highly skilled jobs are more likely to use these systems. >> ChatGBT is still leading the market with its weekly use increasing from 22% to 34%. Other systems like Google's Gemini and Microsoft Copilot are also seeing growth. Trust in these systems is growing, although many users remain neutral due to unfamiliarity. AI literacy is highest in Finland, Australia, and the UK. A >> 10% of respondents pay for AI access and 18% of access through work or school. Generative AI is becoming more integrated into platforms like search engines and social media with 57% encountering AI summaries and search engines. Despite this integration, 67% didn't use an AI agent in the past week. The primary use for generative AI is obtaining information with 38% using it for this purpose in 2026, up from 11% in 2024. AI use for news is still niche but growing with 9% using it for news this year. OpenAI recently announced a breakthrough by solving the Navier Stokes problem, a long-standing mathematical challenge in less than a week. This breakthrough extends beyond mathematics. Similar AI techniques are now being used to tackle cyber security issues by eliminating software bugs. >> Yeah, these bugs occur when software behaves in unintended ways and can be exploited by hackers. AI systems are being developed to perform software verifications much faster than traditional methods. >> A startup called and truth based in PaloAlto is working on this technology. They use a programming language called lean developed by Microsoft researcher Leonardo Demora. >> Lean allows AI to write its own code and solve complex math problems through reinforcement learning. But verifying software code is more challenging because software is inherently messier. Despite these challenges, companies like Antruth are making progress. Chris Hugh, co-founder and co-chief executive of Antruth, emphasized the urgency of addressing AI enabled hacking as a defining problem of our time. >> While the complete eradication of software bugs is still far off, advancements in AIdriven software verification offer hope for enhancing cyber security. Two critical flaws in PHP used by about 70% of websites have caused significant disruptions worldwide. >> Known as PHP2 shell, these vulnerabilities allow attackers to execute code on servers without logging in with a severity score of 9.2 out of 10. >> The flaws were disclosed recently, prompting a global effort to patch systems. PHP maintainers released fixed versions on October 21st, but only for PHP version 8.2. two and newer. >> This leaves many older sites vulnerable. Government websites in countries like the UK, Germany, and France, as well as systems in Japan, and parts of Wikipedia were taken offline as a precaution. >> A National Security Agency advised organizations unable to update immediately to take systems offline until they are fixed. The American Hospital Association has shared guidance from the FBI and NSA with its members. >> Cloudflare reported millions of attack attempts. Jason Clinton from Anthropic warned that the situation could worsen before improving, suggesting relief might come from AI models that can detect and fix security bugs before code is released. >> However, this reliance on AI has sparked criticism with some arguing that AI advancements are exacerbating cyber threats. A massive data breach has allegedly exposed the identities of over 41,000 officials from the US Department of Homeland Security. >> Right. This breach was reportedly carried out by a activist group known as the Department of Peace. They posted a database on the news leak website distributed denial of secrets. >> The database seems to have been obtained from an octa single signon service used by the department of homeland security. It includes employee names, offices, contact information, and assignments. And it's searchable, covering employees from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, US Citizenship and Immigration Services, Customs and Border Protection, and the Department of Homeland Security headquarters. >> The hacker group claims the leak was in response to comments by Homeland Security Secretary Markwin Mullen about intensifying immigration arrests and traffic stops. The Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged being aware of a potential breach and is working to address the situation, but uh Octa and the Department of Homeland Security didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. >> This breach comes amid increased backlash against immigration enforcement efforts during US President Donald Trump's second term. The Migration Policy Institute noted that 980,000 deportations were completed in the first 18 months of his term. As the New York City Marathon approaches, run club sponsorships are gaining momentum and have become crucial for marketers aiming to penetrate the running community. >> Stephanie Arpaya from Excel Sports Management points out that participating in run clubs is almost essential for effective marathon sponsorship. Now, it's a shift from underground activities to a vital marketing strategy. With over 52 million people participating in road running last year, grassroots marketing is becoming popular due to the sport's participatory nature. >> Influencers are playing a significant role here. They host run clubs that often partner with local businesses like bars and breweries to create social experiences beyond just running. >> For example, influencer Priy Rajaguran hosts the sprint and sip run club in Brooklyn, which combines running with social gatherings at local venues. The social aspect of running has attracted a diverse range of brands, including non-fitness companies like beauty brands, which have increased their presence in running related content on platforms like Tik Tok. >> Justine Hang, a content creator and marathon runner, notes the surprising variety of companies reaching out for collaborations. Brands are also engaging with runners through organizations like New York Road Runners, which organizes the NYC Marathon. While official sponsors are typically from the fitness industry, there's rising interest from non-endemic brands. However, unauthorized activities on the marathon course are monitored closely by NYRR to protect its intellectual property. Run clubs offer yearround engagement opportunities for brands, but authenticity is crucial to avoid backlash. AT&T, for instance, partnered with WNBA player Natisha Heidman's Run Buds Club, leveraging existing communities rather than creating new ones. Their event attracted significant engagement, showing the potential of these partnerships despite Running's smaller TV audience compared to other sports.
