Good morning! This is Decoding Retail. Starting in the UK, ASOS says its fourth quarter brought its first year-on-year growth in gross merchandise value since financial year 22. Adjusted EBITDA grew 29 % to £170.3 million and net debt came down too. For the coming year, it's guiding to low single digit growth. That's a business stabilising. And this is the UK's most closely watched online fashion retailer. Aldi UK says Which? has named it the country's cheapest supermarket for 12 months straight. On a basket of 87 grocery items, shoppers paid £27.43 more at Tesco, even with the loyalty discount. Rival's loyalty pricing still hasn't closed that gap. Associated British Foods says it has published its annual report and accounts for 2026, with the latest on the planned demerger of Primark from the group. A standalone Primark would face the capital markets directly, with scrutiny on store rollout pace and margin management that it doesn't answer for separately today. Over to the United States. FTC says Amazon secretly inflated prices in its online search advertising auction and made misleading statements to advertisers about why. The FTC and 22 states have filed an updated, unredacted complaint in the Western District of Washington, with more detail on the alleged scheme. Every brand buying Amazon search ads now has a live court record claiming it was overcharged without disclosure. Walmart says it's expanding its partnership with Zipline, adding 300 new drone delivery sites across the United States. Customers at those locations will get deliveries in as fast as 30 minutes. That moves drone delivery from pilot into scaled infrastructure, and it narrows the last mile gap between Walmart and the PurePlay delivery operators. Visa says it tested 22 AI models on realistic shopping scenarios, and 42.8% of the test runs failed. The best performers passed 82.2% of their runs. For any retailer building agentic checkout or shopping flows today, that's a real reliability risk. In Europe, Zalando says it's bringing products from other online shops onto its platform with Zalando Extended, and Westwing is the first pilot partner. From 2027, its own AI agent will check out for the customer, who never leaves the Zalando app. Owning the customer session is becoming more valuable than owning the product range, and that makes every European retailer online a potential Zalando supplier. Shein says it's expanding its European logistics hub near Wrocław in Poland. The hub covers about 1 million square metres. It will run more than 6,500 autonomous robots. So that's serious fulfilment scale inside the EU, being built before the import duty rules bite. That's your briefing. Sources are in the show notes. I'll see you tomorrow.
